My ‘Squares’ have me delving into the world of colour geometrically.  How colours ‘feel’ to us always depends on the relationship they are having to each other and in turn that we are having within ourselves as we are viewing them.  These colour ‘landscapes’ create moods and soul experiences for us to have via our sense impressions and in turn give us an inner colour sensation.  Working geometrically there are boundaries between the colours and, with a set colour palette, I’m attempting to create harmonic pieces as I explore the varying tones and hues I can create, each one singing its own unique tune, enclosed in its boundaries whilst also raying out into the whole piece.

2017 City of Wanneroo Community Art Awards
This exhibition is well worth the trek (if you’re from down my way) or perhaps you’re lucky and live closer… I found the works diverse and inspiring and of a very high standard.  The gallery is lovely to wander around in amongst the artwork and there’s even a buzzing cafe downstairs for you to enjoy a cuppa afterwards. A must see for all art lovers.

(see below for more details)

Currently on Show at
The David Giles Art Studios
in High Street, Fremantle,

I generally use a whole canvas to explore colour blending, variation and relationship between the colours however recently I’ve been working on smaller squares, sitting side by side, on the one canvas. Here squares of colour converse with their neighbours & as a whole. By altering just one square the artwork can change it’s gesture, expression & mood.  Interesting how powerful a square of colour can be!

These pieces look great individually or grouped together.above from top down; ‘Cool Squares’ acrylic on canvas 460x460mm $350
‘Warm Squares One, Two, Three & Four’ acrylic on canvas 360x310mm $260ea, 2 for $480, 4 for $890

‘Cool Squares small’ acrylic on canvas 410x355m $320
below: ‘Cool Squares One & Two’, 305x305mm $220ea or 2 for $400

PLEASE NOTE, COLOURS ARE SOO MUCH BETTER IN THE GALLERY

April’s portrait is called ‘Letting Go’

One of the bodies of work I’ve embarked on this year is to paint a self portrait each month.  I’m looking at how my inner life emerges as I join with colour and create my own image.
This month has certainly felt a lot different as I’ve been attempting to release some of those irky feelings that live within – and ‘Letting Go’ has emerged…

Portraits
One of the bodies of work I’ve embarked on this year is to paint a self portrait each month.  I’m looking at how my inner life emerges as I join with colour and create my own image.  Moments this month I’ve felt like my inner world was an emotional rollercoaster and so I created ‘Unloveable’.  I must say I think I love her the most, so far…

SdC 2017 Projects

One of the bodies of work I’ve embarked on this year is to paint a self portrait each month.  I’m looking at how my inner life emerges as I join with colour and create my own image.  What do we see of ourselves when we look in a mirror?  Is this reflected out into the world or hidden behind a facade?  As an artist how do I express this in my work: is each face totally different, can we see the similarity within them, what will I share with the outer world…
